How to Print 1 × 1 Inch ID Photos from iPhone

By Mohamed Elatabany · Updated 3 October 2026

A 1 × 1 inch ID photo measures exactly 25.4 × 25.4 mm. In Photo Print for iPhone or iPad, select the 1 × 1 in preset, adjust your portrait crop and arrange copies on the paper size you will print.

  1. Start a layout in Photo Print and import your portrait.
  2. Select the 1 × 1 in preset, or enter 1 inch for width and height.
  3. Choose Fill for a square crop. Adjust the crop so the required parts of the portrait are visible.
  4. Add copies and choose 4 × 6, A4 or US Letter paper.
  5. Set page margins and gaps for your printer, and add cut guides if useful.
  6. Check the sheet preview and quality indicator. Print with AirPrint or export a PDF.
  7. Print PDFs at Actual size / 100%. Measure your first copy: 25.4 mm on each side.

Is 25 × 25 mm the same as 1 × 1 inch?

No. 25 mm is slightly smaller than 1 inch. If an application asks for 1 × 1 inch, use inches or exactly 25.4 mm rather than rounding.

How many copies can I print?

That depends on your paper size, printable area, margins and spacing. Add copies and inspect the preview. A photo that cannot fit is reported rather than reduced to a smaller size.

What makes an ID picture acceptable?

The organisation requesting the picture sets the rules. Size alone may not be enough: background, head position, clothing and image quality can also matter. Photo Print helps with physical sizing and placement; it does not check official rules or certify an ID photo.

Do I need photo paper?

Use the paper type requested by the organisation receiving the picture, and select the matching paper size in your printer settings. Exporting a PDF also lets you take the sheet to a print shop; ask them to preserve the size at 100%.
